WOULD CARE AFTER SURGERY

Post-surgery wound care at home is an issue that most patients and their families are concerned about. Because if the wound is not cared for properly, it can make the wound heal for a long time and create a scar that is unsightly, severe, it will cause infection or even many dangerous complications.

Change the bandage

Before you begin, make sure you have all the necessary supplies: gauze, medical gloves, surgical tape, a plastic bag, and scissors. And then:
  1. Prepare for a changing the bandage by opening the bandages bag and cutting new strips.
  2. Wash and dry your hands. Wear medical gloves.
  3. Loosen the bandage around the old bandage.
  4. Remove old bandage
  5. Clean the incision. (See instructions below)
  6. Check the incision for signs of infection. (See sign below)
  7. Hold a clean, sterile gauze pad in the corner and place it over the incision.
  8. Bandage all four sides of the gauze.
  9. Put all trash in a plastic bag. Drop your gloves last.
  10. Seal the plastic bag and throw it away.

Clean the incision
  • Gently washing the wound with salt water.
  • Do not rub or soak the wound.
  • Do not use rubbing alcohol, hydrogen peroxide or iodine as this can damage tissue and slow healing.
  • Dry the incision or pat dry with a clean towel before bandaging
 

Signs of infection
  • Increasing of yellow or green exudation
  • Change in smell, pus at the wound.
  • Change in the size of the incision.
  • The surrounding area is red or hard.
  • The incision is hot when touching.
  • Increasing pain or unusual pain.
  • Excessive bleeding has seeped through the bandage
Tips to reduce the risk of infection

- Observe the incision every day, checking for signs of infection (see above).
- Change the bandage as recommended by your doctor.
- Do not perform the following acts:
  • Rub the incision.
  • Remove the bandages from the incision unless your doctor tells you to.
  • Use lotion or powder on the incision without your doctor's prescription or instructions.
  • Expose the incision to sunlight.
  • Take a shower unless you can keep the incision dry. You can shower or wipe with a wet towel and avoid the site of the incision until your doctor says you can shower. Before bathing, wrap the bandage with a plastic bag or use another method to keep it dry.
- You may notice some soreness, tenderness, tingling, numbness, and itching around the incision. There may also be slight exudation and bruising. This is normal and there is no cause for concern.
 

Exercise after surgery
 
After surgery, the patient will usually have to be active soon. However, patient should exercise gently and avoid overexertion.
Resting and hanving enough sleep will help the patient recover faster.
